Hello!
My name is Erika and I'm the founder, designer, and maker at Botanical Clothing. I’ve lived on the West Coast the entire duration of my existence (Southern Oregon to Portland, Oregon; San Diego, California, and now back to Southern Oregon). I live for swimming the pristine rivers here, I am a devout garden grower, and above all else, bury me in my favorite place on earth when I die- the Redwoods of Northern California. I hope it goes without saying that I really really love designing and sewing clothes too. I grew up learning to sew small things with my mom as a child and have run with it ever since. Sewing has always been, and continues to be, an act that evokes a little slice of magic every time I do it. Which is great, because I do it almost every day.
I personally love comfortable clothing. I can appreciate the beauty of a tightly fitted ensemble, but day-to-day, I want what I’m wearing to feel easeful and understated. Which doesn’t, I might add, mean frumpy and boring. I realize my bias, but I’ve never felt dull wearing the designs I make. Life can feel like a series of what-the-heck-is-going-on’s… I see no point in adding further woes by wearing restrictive clothing.
I’ve spent far more time than any individual should educating myself on the environmental impact of the fashion industry. Unfortunately, it’s rather bleak. This is sad, because fashion is supposed to be fun! And it is, until you discover that most people around the world making our clothes are not having fun at all. This is one of the innumerable reasons why I’m dedicated to making garments that are fun for everyone along the way. The textile producers I get my fabrics from are growing organic fibers without pesticides, the company I order this fabric from is family owned and operated. Often the world feels so big, it’s hard to believe we can make any real impact. Living our values and doing what we believe is good regardless of this is a daily act of rebellion I embrace with gusto. Thanks for being here. Erika
